Eligibility:

You’re eligible if you’re:

  • an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person;
  • studying full-time and onshore in Australia, preferably in Queensland, with proof of Aboriginality;
  • nominated by an enrolling school or institute at UQ; and
  • approved by industry partner/s
  • available for full-time study for the duration.

You must be in receipt of or apply for and be awarded a living allowance scholarship of at least the Research Training Program rate to be eligible for this scholarship. You apply for this scholarship when you submit an application for an MPhil. You don't need to submit a separate scholarship application.

Who can apply?

This role is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. 

We’re looking for someone who has experience working with and alongside Indigenous Communities and who is interested in caring for Country, data and learning new skills. It would suit someone with an interest in:

  • Working with data (database design and data interpretation)
  • Environmental or land management work
  • Understanding how Indigenous knowledge is looked after and shared respectfully
  • A strong interested in Australian native plants and foods

You don’t need to have all the technical skills to apply. Experience with tools like Excel, GIS, R, NVivo, or SQL is helpful, but we will provide training and support for multivariate data processing software use.

A working knowledge of Indigenous land and cultural fire management would be of benefit to someone working on this project.

You will demonstrate academic achievement in the fields of ultural land management and the potential for scholastic success.

A background or knowledge of Indigenous cultural protocol is highly desirable.
