The 13th “1minute Projection Mapping Competition” in Tokyo, one of the world largest international projection mapping competitions will take place in 2026.
Everyone is welcome and it is an unique chance to present his/her art to the world on a massive building following the theme: “Dialogue“.
The best works will be awarded with a total of JPY 2,900,000, split between 5 distinct prizes. The Grand Prize is JPY 2,000,000.
This competition invites creators to compete through short works ranging from 1:00 to 1:59 minutes. Within this brief duration, participants are challenged to showcase their technical skill, artistic individuality, and the ability to deliver new experiences and emotional impact to both the audience and the jury.
In this century, after the pandemic of the coronavirus, the way we communicate, technology, and distance have changed dramatically. As the world has become more diverse and complex with technological development, “dialogue” has become an even more important theme. Looking to the future, what kind of dialogue is necessary and what kind of future can we envision there?
A total of 18–20 works (selected through a rigorous screening process) will be screened on the at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, during the Tokyo Lights 2026 festival in May 2026.
The 1minute Projection Mapping Competition competition was launched in 2012 (at the dawn of projection mapping in Japan) in a small town in Kanagawa Prefecture. At that time, even people in the visual media industry were still not sure what this expression was? What kind of future could it have? In a time when there was a lack of information on all kinds of topics, the event was launched with the aim of expanding questions and possibilities. Since then, the festival has been held continuously for more than 13 years, making it the oldest and most continuous international festival of its kind in the world.
